Friday the 13th (1980): A Visual Guide

Credits:
The Friday the 13th logo speeds towards a pane of glass smashing it, seven years bad luck you know.

The Kills:
Body Count - 10
Best Kills-
The first Tom Savini money shot, poor Annie gets a knife across the throat, nasty.
Kevin Bacon goes out early, with an arrow through the throat, not only one of the movies top kills, but also one the best in the whole Friday series.
Marcie gets an axe in the face, this was one of Tom Savini's favourite 'gags' in the movie.
Mrs. Voorhees gets her head removed by final girl Alice, look out for Savini's hairy hands, as the stunt stand-in.

Weapons used- Knife, bow & arrow, axe, machete.

You see, Jason was my son:
Jason in part one is played by Ari Lehman, who went on to make a career in non-Western pop music as a touring performer and recording artist.  In 2006 Ari finally went back to acting with the movie Thanxgiving.

Best Friday moments:
The original Ned Flanders, Steve Christy, the allergic to shirts, new owner of Crystal Lake has an awkward moment with Alice as he inspects her heavily shaded black and white drawing. Looking good Steve.
Native American Ned, has just pissed off the toughest cop in the district, who also happens to sport a badass pair of specs, to go with his killer motorbike, as the man says himself "We ain't gonna stand for any weirdness out here!"
"You're doomed! You're all doomed!"
Nobody plays Monopoly like Brenda, just as long you don't mind her being the shoe.
This sweet looking old lady with a lovely blue jumper can't possibly be the killer can she? The iconic Mrs. Voorhees makes her entrance
Alice and Mrs. Voorhees have a surprisingly vicious cat fight, that ticks all the hair pulling, girl on girl boxes.
The first proper appearance of Jason, and also one of the greatest jump moments in the series.

Does someone crash through a window?
A staple of the series, having someone crash through a window in a Friday movie, would become a recurring feature in nearly all the films. With the honour of being the first Victim going to Brenda, who crashes through a cabin window, just before Mrs. Voorhees makes her entrance.

Hey isn't that?
Friday films occasionally feature young actors who later hit it big, in the original Friday it's everybody's favourite Five Degrees star, Kevin Bacon.

Reception:
Slaughtered worse than one of Jason's victims by the critics, nobody expected Friday to be a hit with audiences. Opening on May 9, 1980 the film took in $5,816,321, in its first weekend, eventually going on to finish eighteenth highest grossing film of 1980.

Money Matters:
Budget:$550,000.
Box office:$39,754,601- U.S.A

Trivia:
Composer Harry Manfredini has said that contrary to popular belief, the famous "chi chi chi, ha ha ha" in the film's score is actually "ki ki ki, ma ma ma". It is meant to resemble Jason's voice saying "kill kill kill, mom mom mom" in Mrs. Voorhees' mind.
